But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, took control to create a final set.
He defended four initial break points in a close third set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
